San Jose Walk to Feed the Hungry 2014 Buddhist Global Relief
The BGR Walk to Feed the Hungry in San Jose will be on Sunday, October 19, 2014, and this year we are delighted to have Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi, founder and chairman of BGR leading the walk. This Walk is not only a great way to support BGR in its compassionate efforts to help feed those who are suffering from chronic hunger, but also a positive way to spread compassion to our local community by harmoniously gathering together. Mindful walking, generosity, listening to inspiring talks, and making spiritual friends are great ways to heal, brighten, and develop the mind as taught by the Buddha. Everyone is invited to attend this uplifting event. Check out the photos from last year.
People are encouraged to join-in or depart as they need during the 4.6 mile walk. Everyone is encouraged to set a personal intention before walking, and those who wish to walk mindfully in silence may do so but it is not required. It will be a time for practice, mindful walking, spreading loving kindness, making spiritual friends, and exercise. It will be a pilgrimage of harmony amongst many as we visit locations of such meditation groups as: San Jose Insight Meditation Sangha, San Jose Dharma Punx, Floating Zendo, and Buddhi Vihara. We will enjoy a picnic lunch at the San Jose Rose Garden.
Each year BGR awards part of the walk proceeds to a local charitable organization with a mission similar to BGR's. This year a portion of the proceeds from the San Jose Walk will go to Recovery Cafe San Jose.
Many groups will help support the event such as: Berkeley Buddhist Monastery, Institute for World Religions, Dharma Realm Buddhist University, Buddhi Vihara, Aloka Vihara and Karuna Buddhist Vihara.
