Rev. Konin Cardenas

Soto Zen nun since 2007

Konin began the practice of Buddhism in 1987, and continued as a lay practitioner until she was ordained a Soto Zen nun by Sekkei Harada Roshi in 2007. She has practiced at Hosshinji training monastery in Japan, at Tassajara monastery in the California Ventana Wilderness, and at San Francisco Zen Center’s City Center. As a first generation Latina, Konin is fluent in Spanish. Currently she is the leader of “Dharma en Español,” a Spanish-language study group at San Francisco Zen Center, and she is a Chaplain Resident at John Muir Medical Center in Concord, California. Konin is a member of the SFZC Diversity and Multi-culturalism Committee. She is a long-time practitioner of yoga, and the mother of a 22 year-old daughter. Konin holds an MBA, from the University of California, Berkeley. She is practicing calligraphy and sumi-e painting.
