We’re happy to support practitioners as they explore the Holy Life.
If you’re interested in ordaining at KBV, please make sure you fulfill the requirements below. The first 3 come from the vinaya; the rest are specific to KBV.
1. Be free of financial debt
2. Be free of responsibilities to any current spouse
3. Be free of responsibilities to any non-adult children
4. Be willing and able (physically and mentally) to live in the deep forest
5. Early Buddhism must be your main focus of interest
6. Build and maintain a healthy relationship with all KBV residents
7. Be willing and able to change
If you fulfill all the above requirements, here are the next steps:
1. Visit us regularly and see if you align with our personalities and teaching style
a. If you’re local, please visit our Sunnyvale meditation center in person
b. If you’re not local, please join us online for our hybrid programs
2. If we find alignment together, we’ll arrange for you to stay with us for a week or two
3. If the short stay goes well, we’ll arrange for you to stay with us for a longer period
If all continues to go well and everyone would like to proceed, there is a minimum of one year as an anagarika (postulant) and at least 2 years as a samaneri (novice) at KBV before bhikkhuni ordination is possible.
Please reach out to [email protected] to ask questions and/or arrange dates for visits.
We hope to see you soon!
