Community Work Day: Kuti Site Clearing - Saturday, August 16
Everyone is welcome to come help clear the area of the forest surrounding the site for the new kuti (see below), both for staging building materials and for wildfire safety.
We'll be moving downed trees/branches to a future burn pile site, making firewood and kindling, and having lots of fun sangha time together.
We'll start at 9am with our "How Do I Apply the Dhamma to This?!?!" hybrid program from the hermitage (NOT at the meditation center!), an early potluck meal at 11am, and work afterwards until about 4:30pm.

Kuti Building with the Clear Mountaineers
| On Sep 19th, an intrepid group of community members from Clear Mountain Monastery, led by Sarah & Doug (Ajahn Nisabho's parents), will come to the KBV Hermitage to start construction on the Viriya Kuti. They plan to work on building the kuti for about 10 days, joined by Ajahn Kovilo and Ajahn Nisabho for a few days near the end of their stay. If you're local and would like to help out in any way (groceries, hardware store runs, extra helping hands, etc.), please contact us at [email protected]. |

Joy and Progress in Community
The past few months have been busy with teaching quite a few retreats. It's been wonderful to be able to share the Dhamma so extensively with so many people and to observe and support such diligent practice by so many.
Now that we're back at the Hermitage, back to our regular practice and programs, and back to physical work in the forest, I'm celebrating the good fortune of having this community. Everyday, I get to talk with people associated with KBV who are seriously practicing Dhamma. Everyday, I live on because of the generosity of this community. I get to witness the "practice" taking so many forms. At the root of it, these are the many ways to apply the Dhamma to life experience, many ways to walk the path. It's beautiful and touching and inspiring.
We can learn so much about the path by observing our own growth and the growth of others. We find joy and compassion through helping each other and sharing in living the Dhamma.
One example that comes to mind is having Grace Lee co-lead the daylong retreat with me a couple of weeks ago. Her stories of finding creative ways to practice with the guidance of the suttas and her teachers were very entertaining and useful. Her sharing about going deeply within to examine her mind, working to uproot the defilements there, was inspiring to many of our community members.
I look forward to seeing you on-line and in-person as we clear space, build and celebrate this community together over these coming months.
With all blessings,
Ayya Santussika
