We look forward to sharing this joyful time in community with you all, whether you attend online or in-person. In person we will be joined again by Ayya Santacitta of the Aloka Earth Room and Ayya Anandabodhi and Anagarika Bethany of Aloka Vihara.
Donations to the 2023 Almsgiving Ceremony (“Kathina”)
So far this year, we were able to make several major building and infrastructure improvements for the hermitage, including the power system upgrade to lithium batteries and the near-completion of the elder's kuti. A new wood stove was also purchased for heating the cabin in a healthy, cleaner, and more environmentally friendly way. A wood splitter has been researched and will likely be purchased later this summer/fall. For this annual almsgiving, the proceeds will go towards the following projects:
New wood stove installation

New wood stove installation
- The old wood stove that came with the cabin when it was purchased is about ten years past it's safe, healthy limit and is leaking smoke into the cabin. A new wood stove has been purchased, but the monastery still needs to have it delivered, installed (with the possibility of needing new stove pipes), and the old stove hauled away.
- We need to literally "clear the path"! As you've all probably heard, winter hit California hard this year. The nuns and several other lay supporters did a lot to clean up after the storms, including many large burn piles. But more professional help is needed as we ease into an extra-dangerous fire season, requiring professional tree workers with large chippers for all the downed trees from the storms.
- On top of needed more accommodations at the hermitage, a new kuti site located up on a high spot with good sun has the potential for solar power. Panels and a battery station on the kuti can generate enough electricity to power new kutis as well as the two smaller kutis.
- Even though it doesn't look like it'll be a problem this year, our small spring usually runs dry by late summer. There are still plans to explore the possibility of a well to ensure this basic need of a reliable water supply.
